Principal

The two main interests of Arjen van den Berg, a Principal at DSI, are the theory and the practice of strategy. “Where most people enjoy a good novel, I can actually enjoy reading the latest thinking on strategy.” In all of his work, he strives to identify practical means by which academic theories can transform organizations.

At DSI, Arjen has worked across industries for a wide variety of leading multinational clients, including National Grid, BP, GE, Microsoft, Vodafone, John Deere, Aviva, and RBS. Areas in which he excels include strategy development, scenario planning, strategic risk management, and option portfolio management. Among his most remarkable projects is the work with the political and business leaders of former Dutch Caribbean Island, Aruba, where he co-developed and rolled-out the National Strategic Plan. Over 18 months, he led teams to develop and deploy mid and long term plans for Sustainable Growth of the Island.

Arjen started his consulting career as an associate at Bain. Prior to that he held a post-doctoral research position at Stern School of Business (NYU), working with leading strategy Professors and co-authoring a number of academic papers on long term strategic planning.

Arjen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with distinction from the Amsterdam School of Business, a Masters in Marketing from the Dutch institute of Marketing (NIMA), and a Ph.D. in strategy from the Warwick Business School. He is the Principal of DSI’s Energy Practice and manages the London office.
